Senior Ladies Create History

February 27th, 2014 by Stella

On Saturday the Ladies travelled to Nottingham for the National XC Championships to complete their mission to compete in the Kent Championships XC, Southern Championships XC and the Nationals. After only deciding to do all three races in December and get themselves fit for the three races. It was always going to be a tough mission, overcoming breaks to have children, run marathons, and career changes, a far cry from the Bronze Team Medals Becky Weller and Janine Brown won in the U20 National Championship 13 Years ago to go with their Southern Team Medals. Still our ladies did not disappoint. Janine Brown made the difficult decision to withdraw from the team after the Southern XC because of injury but travelled to Nottingham as Team Manager and support the Yellow and black Army, it was left to Candy Hawkins, Becky Weller & Amanda Jukes to lead the team after a last minute drop out from the team, this meant they would not count in the team standings because it was 4 to count. However not to be deterred the girls gave 110%, Candy Led the girls in 389th followed closely by Amanda in 408th and Becky rounding out the team 554th. Well done ladies. Mission Accomplished :))

November 3rd, 2013 by Stella

Janine Brown Completed in the Amsterdam Marathon recently in a time of 3hr29.21 finishing 54th in the Senior category despite an injury plagued build up. She was running in memory of Clare Grossman who was the previous track and field team captain to the club for many years in the 1980′s & 1990′s, she passed away in 2011 from the disease Vasculitis. Janine has since raised more then £2500 with Team Clare for the Clare’s chosen charity after completing the New York Marathon 2011 and the London Marathon 2012. The money raised will go towards supporting those who have the disease and their families. And help towards new research into the disease which affects the immune system and much needed equipment that is vital.
She would like to thank those at AAC who have supported her and sponsored her over the past few years, It has been greatly appreciated. Clare was an inspiration to so many and as a final tribute to her, Janine’s just giving page will remain open until Clare’s Birthday later this month, if you would like to donate to the Team Clare Campaign please copy and paste the link into your browser:
