Ashford AC dominate at the Charing 10k

Charing 10k Ashford AC were in excellent form at the Charing 10k. Matt Britton won the race for the 3rd time in a row in an excellent time of 35.30 closely followed by 15 year old Declan Burton in 2nd place in 35.32. Matt Hogben came in 5th place in 37.32 which guaranteed the club the men’s team prize. Janine Brown won the women’s race in 42.51, closely followed by Candy Hawkins as the second women home in 46.22. Newcomer to the longer distances, Peter Le Rossignol made an excellent start to his London Marathon preparations coming home in 47.43.

Club Success in Westminster Mile

StevenAshford Athletic Club had three athletes compete in the BUPA Westminster Mile held on Sunday 26th May. Olympian Lisa Dobriskey finished 2nd in the senior women’s mile with a time of 4.32 finishing just behind Hannah England who ran 4.31.
The club was represented by two wheelchair athletes who competed in the Wheelchair British Athletics Road Chmapionships event. Gregg Aitken finished in 7th place overall in a new personal best time of 5.15. Steven Sopp was 13th overall with a new personal best time of 6.35. Both athletes have only been training for a matter of months and competing since April got the chance to test themselves against the world’s greatest wheelchair racer David Weir who won the race in superfast time of 3.09. Both athletes have a bright future ahead of them and can only improve further.

Well done to all three athletes for competing.

Success for Latala

ASHFORD AC’s Robert Latala swept to a convincing victory in the sunshine on Folkestone seafront on Good Friday winning the Folkestone 10 mile road race in some style with 54 minutes 53 seconds.
The talented Ashford man finished nearly a minute clear of Beckenham veteran Jim Addison who clocked 55:46 and Adam Lowther of of Medway&Maidstone who recorded 56:33.
Ashford’s Matt Britton was ninth with 58:48 and Anthony Forsyth 21st in 58:48.
Veteran Candy Hawkins ran her first 10 mile race and was delighted with 21st in the women’s field clocking 75:57 and raising money for the Team Clare charity which donates funds to Vasculitis UK.
