Fine run by veterans

ASHFORD AC’s Kevin Williams was a creditable seventh in the Kent Masters cross country championships at Rose Hill School, Tunbridge Wells in the M50 category.
He clocked a fine 35:56 with the gold going to Tonbridge’s Graeme Saker with 32:37.
Ashford also had two women runners with Candy Hawkins 16th in the W35 race with 24:25 and Jenny Brown 11th in the W45 event with 23:59. Jenny was also fourth in the W50 category.

Duo on course

NEIL Daughters and Andrew Robertson produced fine runs to maintain their challenge in the U20 men’s section of the Kent Cross Country League at Danson Park.
Neil finished third in 18:14 to stand fifth overall while Andrew is second overall after his fourth place finish in 18:24.
Jess Carley has flown the flag for Ashford AC’s U13 girls and a fine sixth place in 9:24 keeps her fourth overall in the title challenge while in the U20 women Amelia Jones is fifth overall after her fourth place in 16:02.
In the U13 boys Marshall Smith had another good run for 26th in 12:33 to stand 12th overall while in the U15 boys Joe Briault was 11th in 15:06 and Kieran Eland 15th with 15:32.
Tim Forsyth was 32nd in the U17s in 19:25 while in the men Warren Uden is in the top 30 overall after his 76th place with 40:53
Kevin Williams is seventh veteran overall and 27th after his 80th place with 41:05.
Other finishers were Dylan Thomas 91st in 42:04, 94 Philip Heathfield 42:20, 123 Ian King 44:30 and 144 Matt Iles 47:03. Ashford’s men are currently 10th team in the league.

Storming win for Amelia

AMELIA Jones notched a superb victory for Ashford AC in the Kent Cross League U20 women’s race at Beech Grove, Nonington in a tremendous finish.
Just five seconds separated the top three with Amelia winning with 14:34 just holding off the Cambridge Harriers duo of Kassia Soards and Megan Williams.
There was also a fine run in the U13 girls where Jessica Carley was fifth in 10:28 to maintain fourth overall in the league.
In the senior women Candy Hawkins had another good run for 30th in 23:01 while former Ashford athlete Lauren Fawke. now boosting Folkestone RC’s strong challenge, was 19th with 22:05.
In the boys Marshall Smith was 17th in the U13s with 12:29 to lie 12th overall in the league standings and there were strong runs in the U20 men with Neil Daughters eighth in 18:32 and Andrew Robertson 12th with 19:04.
Declan Burton led Ashford’s challenge in the U15 boys with 12th in 15:14 with Kieran Eland 18th in 16:06.
