Three local athletes travelled to the Tom Linterne Medal meeting at Crawley on the Bank Holiday Monday. The weather on the day was very warm and what wind there was helped the athletes in the finishing straight.

Emilie Knights-Toomer took the silver medal in the Under 15 women’s Javelin. Emilie’s second place throw was just short of her pb at 28.94 metres. Unfortunately a cross wind probably prevented her attacking her pb. Emilie has been throwing consistently around the 29 metre mark so further improvement is certain, particularly has she has another year in this age group,

Under 13 Girl, Alice Bussey contested the 200 metres and the 800 metres and although not getting amongst the medals, managed to achieve personal best performances in both events with her best effort coming in the 800m where she finished fourth in a time of 2m 52.83 seconds.  Alice also has another year in her age group and is learning all the time.

Former Ashford AC athlete Gareth Morris, now with Cardiff AC, took the gold medal in the senior men’s 400 metres hurdles, in a time of 54.92 seconds. Just an hour later he contested the 200 metres taking the silver medal in 23.57 seconds. This was a good effort from Gareth as the previous day he had competed in the CAU Inter Counties match at Bedford, representing Kent, when he recorded a season’s best time of 54.34 seconds.
