Sportshall youngsters sparkle

ASHFORD AC had an excellent day at a Sportshall competition at Astor, Maidstone with Ashford represented by five squads including two from the Julie Rose Academy and eight Under 15 athletes.

It was a keenly contested competition but Ashford were outstanding in the Under 15 girls with Lauren Bamford taking top honours and Kayleigh Miller-Leslie third overall.

There was a similar performance by the U15 boys with victory going to Nathan Fatola and Temi Bawo third.

Five teams were in action in the Under 13 boys and Ashford emerged as overall winners dominating the competition winning seven of the 10 events including a record breaking 7.78m in the standing triple jump by Oliver Williams who took the individual honours with 138 points.

 The U13 girls A team were third out of seven teams and competed well to finish with 178 points. A young B squad, who compete in the same age group again next year, competed valiantly to gain 158 points to finish fifth.

The Ashford Julie Rose Academy made a clean sweep in the Under 11s with the boys dominating the event winning two events on the track and three in the field to win the boys competition with 138 points.

The girls also took top honours in a seven team field winning all of the six track events to take maximum points. In the field they won four of the events to win overall with 152 points.

Such strong performances from both girls and boys earned the U11’s the overall combined team award.

U13 boys: Oliver Williams, Lewis Hagger, Daniel Steadman, Ben Isaac, George Hogben, Ben Phillips. Girls: Amber Currie, Davita Sholade, Polly Abbott, Emem Umoh, Emily Hamlyn, Mary Coleman and Rebecca Cock, Charlotte Tappenden, Georgia Bamford, Ciara Ewart, Alisha Mason, Charlotte Dryland.
