National run

ASHFORD AC’s Candy Hawkins is hoping for warmer conditions next month in the Brett Lydd half marathon after freezing weather hampered her run in the National cross country championships at Herrington Country Park at the weekend.
After a heavy snowfall the Ashford veteran finished a fine 236th in a field of 427 senior women runners clocking 42 minutes 01 seconds over the demanding 8k course.

Candy on course

ASHFORD athlete Candy Hawkins was the club’s sole competitor in action at the South of England cross country championships at Parliament Hills and ran really well clocking 41 minutes 56 seconds for the 8k course.
On a beautiful day the Ashford veteran mastered the muddy course to finish 153rd and is looking forward to running the Nationals this weekend in Sunderland
The Nationals were postponed in January because of the heavy snow.

Youngsters run well

ASHFORD AC had a small squad in action for the Kent cross country championships at Detling but picked up two eighth places in the junior age groups.
Jessica Carley had a fine run in the U13 girls with 12:32 and Declan Burton emulated her effort in the U15 boys with 15:17.
Andy Robertson was a fine 10th in the U20 men with 32:06 and in the U17s Tim Forsyth was was 22nd with 25:44.
In the U13 boys Marshall Smith was 35th in 15:33 and Jacon Khadaroo was 48th with 18:55.
In the two senior races Candy Hawkins was Ashford’s best finisher with 48th in the women with 38:05 with Jenny Brown 52nd in 38:27 while in the men Matt Britton was 52nd clocking 38:09 with Warren Uden 92nd with 52:01, Dylan Jones 142nd in 58:06 and Matt Isles 152nd with 60:06.
