AAC’s April/May 2010 Newsletter

Great start to Summer Track Season
Kent Young Athletes League 1
30 athletes represented AAC and team finished third. AAC Team Managers are Pat Hanys and Fiona Sime. This is a local (Kent) competition for Under 13 and 15 boys and girls. It takes place on Sundays is set up to introduce children to competitive athletics.

National Junior League 2
Team finished 4th and well on track for targeted mid league finish. 23 athletes competed for AAC. Three or four more athletes would make a big (more…)

THE BATON – ASHFORD ATHLETIC CLUB – MARCH 2010

Youngest member – Congratulations to Julie Stuart-Smith, the Club’s Treasurer, who had a lovely baby boy, James Gordon.

Walking Coach - Chris Hobbs has started his race walking coaching on 4th February 2010. Sessions will take place once a month on a Tuesday for beginners and an improver’s session once a month on a Thursday – please see website for full details.
Coaching for these athletes will take place in Lanes 1 and 2 on these days so please make sure that you read all the notices on the notice board when you attend for training to check the lane rules for each training night.

Snowman Competition - Thanks to everyone who entered the snowman competition – there were some really fabulous entries. The prize for the first entry received was awarded to Callum Burgess. The Judges then looked at all the entries and awards were given as follows:
1st Prize – Mary Coleman
2nd Prize – The Bamfords
3rd Prize – Callum Burgess
Thanks also to Ciara Ewart, Daniel Steadman and Brendan Foster for their entries and also to Ted Hawkins – did anyone guess correctly: how did Ted write in the snow on his roof?
Photos are on the website as well as on the noticeboard next to the chute at the Stadium.

Sportshall – At the sportshall competition in Ramsgate, AAC took part with good performances & pb’s from both teams. The U13s girls team 1 won and the (more…)

THE BATON – ASHFORD ATHLETIC CLUB – JANUARY 2010

Happy New Year to all our AAC athletes.

Walking Coach - Ashford AC are very pleased to welcome Chris Hobbs to our very dedicated team of coaches. Chris will be coaching our athletes in race walking and so there will have to some adjustments to use of the track on training nights. It has yet to be agreed with the Stadium but it is likely that coaching for these athletes will take place in Lanes 1 and 2. Please make sure that you read all the notices on the notice board when you attend for training to check the lane rules for each training night.

Kent League Cross Country - Congratulations to the AAC under 15 boys team who finished third overall in the series and the under 17 men who finished 5th overall in their category.

Sportshall - The Club had a very successful day at the Sportshall Competition in Tonbridge in December 2009 and they returned with a huge clutch of medals. Please see the website for a report, photos and results. Congratulations to all the athletes who took part.

Parents and Athletes’ Questionnaires - Thank you to all the parents and athletes who completed the questionnaires. The draw for taking part took place at the end of December and the first prize was awarded to someone who completed the questionnaire in red ink but did not give their name. If you are the author of this questionnaire, can you please see Kate at the desk to claim your prize. (more…)
