Long jump battle

Kayleigh Miller-Leslie, left was third in the long jump just holding off Lauren Bamford and Sophie Hamlyn

THERE was a string of personal bests for Ashford AC’s athletes in a high quality South of England U17/U15 championships at the Julie Rose Stadium.
Pride of place went to Kayleigh Miller-Leslie taking the bronze medal in the U15 long jump with a best of 5.15m to hold off teammates Lauren Bamford in fourth with a personal best 4.74m and Sophie Hamlyn fifth in another best of 4.72m.
Lauren also set a personal best 12.78 in her heat of the 75m hurdles.
Kirsten Hooten also just missed a medal with fourth in the U15 javelin with a fine best of 29.97m while Laura Hanagan was also fourth in the triple jump with 10.28m.
Oliver Williams had to settle for fourth but another personal best in the U15 boy’s triple jump with 12.06m.
Nathan Fatola was fifth in the U15 long jump with 5.47m and set his personal best of 25.67 in the 200m.
In the U17s Tom Williams was fifth with a personal best 11.98m in the triple jump.
